Mr. Boris Tassev - President 2010/2011

Boris Tassev is born on December 29th 1984 in Sofia. Considers himself lucky to have graduated form one of the top high schools in Bulgaria – the First English Language School (FELS). In 2000 he got accepted in Middlesex School of Concord New Hampshire, but he chose to stay in Bulgaria. After four years in FELS, he got accepted at Bard College in NY, Annandale-on-Hudson, back then one of the top 20 Colleges and one of the most expensive ones on a Distinguished Scientist Scholarship for Natural Sciences and Mathematics, which allowed him to stay in the United States for a little bit more than four years.

In the mean time his interests shifted in a new direction. After exploring Mathematics and Computer Science for a year and a half he got introduced to the world of Economics. At that time he moderated for the Department of Economics of Bard College part of the Levy Economic Institute. From that point he delved in the field of Applied Macroeconomics and Finance, exploring the United States financial market and ending his academic work with a year long Senior Project exploring the booming housing crisis in the world focusing primarily on Bulgaria. In the mean time he gained experience in micromanaging in several IT companies in NY.

Currently Boris is back in Bulgaria managing a family company dealing with import of luxury goods. Boris whishes to have the opportunity to make a difference for the Bulgarian society.

Boris enjoys traveling around the world and meeting new people. His passion is the piano and he enjoys making conversations with it. His latest passion is dancing and he devotes quite some time to it.

The Past-President and the new President of Rotaract Club Sofia International

Members from Rotaract Club Sofia International (Ms. Evelina Sandalova, Ms. Paola Ivanova and Mr. Asparuh Karastoyanov) organized a wonderful party for the board change of the 4 clubs that for the Rotary Sofia International Family. The New Board Celebration Party took place at Karaoke club “2night” on Saturday night (July 3rd 2010) right after the teambuilding which was during the same day.

The party was meant to be an informal procedure for handing the club’s attributes and powers to the newly elected boards. Apart from the Rotarian traditions, during the event all the guest had the opportunity to sing their favorite songs. Also there were many other surprises as Karaoke contests, gifts, presents, certificates and above all – friendship!

The changes:

Rotary – Mr. Stoian Kuchukov gave the President’s chain to Mr. Iain Greive

Rotaract – Mr. Dimiter Mandradjiev gave the President’s chain to Mr. Boris Tassev

Interact (Meridian 22) – Ms. Evelina Sandalova gave the President’s chain to Mr. Marsell Atanasoff

Interact (AAS) – Mr. Asparuh Karastoyanov will initiate elections in the fall of the current year.

The party was of great succees also because all the proceeds are to be divided among the 2 Interact and the 1 Rotaract club in the Family.

Mr. Promberger explaining leadership types

The 4 clubs that form the Rotary Sofia International Family organized their teambuilding for 1 days in Sofia city on July 3rd 2010.
Over 30 members and guests had the opportunity to get acquainted with a couple of topics related to the types of leaderships and the way that organizations and teams have to work on a coherent way in order to manage to cope with pressure that may occur on some occasions.

The beginning words were from the Rotary Club Sofia International member and secretary – Mr. Michail Sougarev. Afterwards the theoretical part that was introduced by Mr. Hans Promberger (member of Rotary Club Sofia International and Past-President) and thus the participants in the teambuilding had the “mission” to build the tallest tower with the trick that it has to stay up and not fall for at least 1 minute.

Another part of the teambuilding was the participants to asses themselves.

Apart from the theory and practical teambuilding exercises the participants had the opportunity to visit the 60 K office building which company is owned and runned by Mr. Philip Clayton – member of Rotary Club Sofia International. It was in this building that the teambuilding excercises took place.

The initiative also aimed to find more ways for collaboration and cooperation between Rotary club, Rotaract club and the 2 Interact Clubs of Sofia International. This was achieved.

Rotary, Rotaract and the 2 Interact clubs of the Sofia International Family wish to thank 60 K for the warm hospitality and professionalism.

Rotary International 2010/2011 Theme

Today (July 1, 2010) Rotary International kicks off new year 2010-2011.
In District 2482 Rotaract Club Sofia International sent a greeting letter to the new Governor of District 2482 – Mr. Krasimir Ganchev – a Rotarian friend from Rotary Club Bourgas. We wish him all the best and fruitful results during his governing of the district.

The 2010/2011 theme of Rotary International is “Building Communities, Bridging Continents”

Annual Golf Tournament

On June 26th, the family of Rotary Sofia International took part and contributed to the organization of the annual golf tournament of our clubs. The Organizing Committee led by Mr. Phil Clayton, member of Rotary Sofia International implemented this annual project in favor of the CEDAR Foundation. At Air Sofia Ihtiman Golf club, more then 25 golfers and many guests gathered to spend some great time together. Tennis, basketball, volleyball, horse riding, bowling, BBQ, raffle were only part of the exciting moments the family of Rotary Sofia International offered to those who came to support this charitable initiative. Interested in the most gentleman’s game had also the chance to try their newbie talent taught by leading golfer.

The CEDAR Foundation works for Bulgarian orphanages and their rights to have equal social life and opportunities through implementing different projects and providing living facilities for them.

The family of Rotary Sofia International, Rotary, Rotaract and the two Interact clubs were happy to be part of this noble initiative. The Rotaractors would like to render their gratefulness to Mr. Phil Clayton for organizing this very successful project and  to all members and friends for the great time on Saturday.

New member - Lyubomir Zhelehanov

The Rotaract Club Sofia International had the pleasure to conduct its member induction ceremony on June 21 2010 during a regular meeting.
The new member is Mr. Lyubomir Zhelehanov – a high-school graduate of the Anglo-American School in Sofia and secretary of the Interact Club Sofia International at the Anglo-American School. He has been visiting the Club for more than half year and has helped in the realization of a couple of projects.
Mr. Zhelehanov is proposed by our fellow member and current secretary – friend Ms. Paola Ivanova.

The members of RAC Sofia International are glad to work with their new friend Mr. Lyubomir Zhelehanov.

THE VOCATION OF MR. LYUBOMIR ZHELEHANOV WILL KNOW AND JUDGE ROTARACT BY HIS EMBODIMENT OF IT IN CHARACTER AND SERVICE, AND WE ACCEPT MR. LYUBOMIR ZHELEHANOV AS A MEMBER WITH CONFIDENCE THAT OUR PRINCIPLES AND ORGANIZATION WILL BE SAFE AND SECURE IN HIS HANDS.

Balloons at the Hawaii Party

The Rotaract Club Sofia International attended a Hawaii Party after a full day of Tennis tournament. The events were organized by Rotaract Club Sofia and this was the 16th edition of the project. At the Hawaii Party the members of Rotaract Club Sofia International (Dimiter Mandradjiev, Paola Ivanova, Evelina Sandalova) and the members of the Interact Club Sofia International at the Anglo-American School (Lyubomir Zhelehanov, Atanas Mihnev), who also attended the party, had the pleasure to participate in the charitable auction and raffle. The Rotaract Club Sofia International bought at the auction the Bulgarian invention of the 20th century – a “chushkopek” = “pepper-baker” (a portable oven which is only for baking peppers). All the proceeds from the event are for a social fascility for young women near Sofia city. The event was very well organized and despite the heavy rain all the guests had fun.
